However, the moment you run out of lives and get a game over, you lose all of your golden coins and therefore must go back through each boss fight to re-earn it again. At the end of each of the six worlds there is a boss fight in which you must undergo. My only real issue with the game would be the 6 golden coins. The last few levels are quite challenging, but if it's too much there's an option of going into easy mode, which helps a TON (slows courses down, removes enemies, etc.). The difficulty on these is pretty average to easy. The levels are all fun and refreshing - each one very different than the last. This is pretty nice, so in other words you have 3 hits before you lose a life rather than 2. One feature that I love about this is when you have a special power up, for instance the flower power, if you get hit you go back down to super mario, and if you get hit again you go back to your tiny version of Mario. The gameplay is very reminiscent to that of Super Mario World or even comparable to the New Super Mario Bros. A very good Super Mario game, considering Gameboy doesn't have very many to offer.
